The Case of the Mysteriously Missing Blogger

Hello, it's been a while. Not much, how about you?

Hello Dear Reader,

I swear I haven’t forgotten about you. You’re probably wondering where I’ve been and why you haven’t seen any new posts by me. I do have two very good reasons why I have not been blogging and leaving my poor husband to do all the work.

1. I’ve been a lazy blogger. I must admit I’ve been a bit of a procrastinator when it comes to writing for our blog. I have all these great ideas and all these wonderful pictures to share, but I always seem to find other things to do first.

2. My other, more personal, reason why I haven’t been blogging is that I have had juvenile rheumatoid arthritis since I was little and lately it’s been acting up. My hands have been pretty achy and sore, so typing is something I’ve wanted to avoid. Yesterday the hubs took me down to Fry’s Electronics and I picked up the latest Dragon 11.5 software. It allows me to talk into a microphone and it does all the typing for me. It’s such a cool application – I don’t know why I didn’t pick it up sooner. I will admit it is a little weird to speak my thoughts out loud instead of typing them. You would think it would be natural for me since I’m always thinking out loud anyways! The microphone is very sensitive and the software does a pretty good job deciphering what am I trying to say. It even will accept commands to control my computer like “Open Internet Explorer.” Unfortunately it doesn’t respond to the command, “Write me a brilliant blog post.” I must say I do feel a little silly wearing the headset. It looks like I’m an air traffic controller about to guide a plane in for landing.

So there you have it. I hope you haven’t given up or forgotten about us. I certainly haven’t forgotten about you all. You will be hearing from me much more frequently now that I’ve got my Dragon speech-to-text software!

Happy New Year !

  1. Sidebar: we checked out both the Dragon Home version (pictured above, which we took home) and the Premium Edition, which is supposedly geared more towards blogging use. After comparing the two, none of the “premium” features seemed necessary. The Home Edition is awesome in and of itself. It adjusts for your accent, speed of speech, nuance, etc. and continually learns more with each usage. If it makes mistakes and you correct it, the software’s recognition library grows.

That, and you can pretty much control most basic computer functions with your voice. Almost hands free operation of your computer!

BTW, welcome back to the blog, Wife!

  2. Oh and that $49.99 price comes with a $20 rebate. So it ends up being $29.99! It’s honestly worth every dollar of the $49.99 – with the $20 rebate it’s a steal.
